ACTIVITIES ON BOARD AND DURING HOLIDAYS.

A First Engineer Job's assist Chief Engineer.

As for the duties and responsibilities of the 1st engineer:

Duties:

1. As the head of work who manages the daily work of the ship and the maintenance of all machines. 

2. Must report every incident that occurs in the engine room to the Chief Engineer. 

3. If the Chief Engineer is absent or unable to attend, the 1st Engineer will temporarily replace him so as not to hinder the ship's operations. 

Responsibilities:

1.Sea guard duty at 04.00-08.00 and 16.00 - 20.00 in the engine room. 

2. Arrange maintenance activities with the engine room foreman and consult with Chier Engineer is mainly a work safety issue. 

3. Allocate maintenance and repair work to 2nd Engineer, 3rd Engineer and Foreman and supervise the same.

4. Make a work report engine room.

5. Control all documents in the engine room. 

6. Monitor maintenance schedules for main engines, auxiliary engines, compressors, purifiers, pumps and other equipment. 

7. Coordinate with all Engineers, make sure they save correct machine maintenance records under his responsibility. 

8. Ensure that the engine compartment is clean and free of oily residue.

9. Maintain spare parts Inventory and running store on board.

10. Ensure rating works according to safety procedures and marine pollution. 

11. Evaluate the work and report its performance to the Chief Engineer. 

12.Take over control and supervision of the engine room when maneuvering ships, especially when spare parts inventory and running store on board.  entering or leaving ports and restricted sections. 

13. Perform other duties assigned by the Chief Engineer (depending on the situation). 

During the Voyage,

       when the ship sailing my duty 04.00-08.00 and 16.00-20.00, before I start the duty first check the temperature, pressure, oil level and leakage of the engine and pumps that are operating.  After that enter the control room check all the engine panels, especially the amperes, watts, hertz and Ohm.  continue to check the condition of the main engine, generator and ice machine and don't forget to check the temperature of the hatch because it is very important for loading.  Then I check the document / log book after everything is finished and then I start work if there is something important and needs to be done.  After my morning duty I have breakfast, before taking a break sometimes I take time around the ship to see the situation / around the ship. 

While  at the port,

       A few days before we had planned what to do / do when the ship was a longside and we prioritized the important things.  For example, machines or pumps that cannot be done or can pose a risk when the ship is sailing, so we should do it when the ship is a longside.  So before starting our work first safety meeting.

Period of  Processing Tuna  at Sea,

          At the time of tuna processing I help on deck.  Before starting tuna fish processing, first check whether the blood pump is functioning properly and close the water holes to the sea and also check the equipment used during processing.  And after the tuna fish processing was finished, I continued my duties at 16.00-20.00, during my duties supervising and controlling the operating machines, especially the tuna cooling process, whether everything was running normally. 

During the holidays,

          My activities during the holidays, I spend a lot of time with my family, take them for walks to recreational areas and much more.  So my daily routine is to get up early to clean the house and look after and educate my children, sometimes I also go to help the neighbors when they are doing some work.
